Connect Magento to Google Shopping in 5 steps
1
Generate Magento API credentials
In Magento Admin: System → Integrations → Add Integration. Set Resource Access to Custom and select Catalog → Products (read) and Catalog → Categories (read). Activate the integration and copy the four OAuth credentials — Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, Access Token, and Access Token Secret.
2
Connect your store in Trajekt
In Trajekt: Add Store → Magento. Enter your store URL and API credentials. Trajekt pulls your full catalogue including all products, variants, custom attributes, and images via the Magento 2 REST API.
3
Map custom attributes and set rules
In Trajekt’s rules engine, map your GTIN/barcode attribute to gtin, your brand to brand, and configure title rules to prepend the brand and append variant attributes. Assign custom labels by price range or category.
4
Copy your Trajekt feed URL
Trajekt generates a stable feed URL for your Google Shopping output. This URL always returns your latest product data. Copy it from your Trajekt dashboard.
5
Add as Scheduled Fetch in Merchant Center
In Google Merchant Center Next: Products → Data sources → Add data source → Scheduled fetch. Paste your Trajekt feed URL and set to daily. Your Magento catalogue updates in Merchant Center automatically.
Common Magento gotcha:Magento's configurable product system is the most common source of feed errors. If you export parent products rather than child simple products, each variant appears as a single row with no colour/size data — which means Google Shopping can't filter or segment by those attributes. Trajekt specifically targets child product rows from the Magento REST API to avoid this.
How Magento product variants map to Google Shopping
Magento configurable products generate child simple product rows, each with a unique id (child SKU) and a shared item_group_id (parent SKU). This ensures each size/colour combination appears as a correct feed row without duplicating parent product listings.
Feed output — variant row example
id: "magento_variant_67890"
item_group_id: "magento_parent_12345"
title: "Brand Product Name — Navy — UK 12"
color: "Navy"size: "UK 12"
price: "49.99 GBP"availability: "in_stock"
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Trajekt connects to both Magento 2 (open source) and Adobe Commerce (the enterprise version, formerly Magento Commerce) via the same REST API. The connection process is identical for both — create an integration in Magento Admin, generate OAuth credentials, and paste them into Trajekt.
Trajekt pulls child simple products from the Magento REST API rather than parent configurable products. Each child becomes a feed row with its specific attribute values (colour, size, material) and a shared item_group_id matching the parent configurable product. This is the correct structure for Google Shopping variant grouping.
Magento custom attributes are accessible via the REST API as part of the product's custom_attributes array. In Trajekt's rules engine, map your GTIN attribute code (e.g. ean or barcode) to the gtin feed field, and your brand attribute to brand. One rule covers every product with that attribute.
Trajekt supports Magento 2.3 and above, including all current Magento 2 versions and Adobe Commerce. Magento 1 (EOL since June 2020) uses a different API format and is not supported.
Yes. Trajekt can be configured to pull product data from a specific Magento store view, allowing you to generate feeds for products with the correct language, currency, and store-specific pricing for each target market.
Initial setup takes 20-40 minutes: creating the Magento integration (10 minutes), connecting in Trajekt and first catalogue sync (10-20 minutes depending on catalogue size), and configuring feed rules (5-10 minutes for standard rules). Your first Google Shopping feed is typically live within an hour of starting.
