Product feeds for fashion retailers

Fashion has stricter feed requirements than any other category — apparel-on-model images, correct gender/size/colour attributes, seasonal collection management, and 5+ channels that fashion shoppers actually use. Trajekt handles all of it from one Shopify or WooCommerce connection.

Fashion feed requirements — what’s different

Fashion apparel has more required and recommended attributes than almost any other category on Google Shopping. Get these right and you unlock better match quality, more filter placements, and lower CPCs.

👒

item_group_id

Groups all variants (sizes & colours) of the same garment as a single Shopping listing with size/colour selectors. Without it, each size appears as a separate product — cluttering results and splitting performance data.

🎨

color

Each colour variant needs its own feed row with the exact colour value matching your product page. Enables Shopping colour filters. Google cross-checks feed colour vs page colour — inconsistency causes disapprovals.

👾

size

Use UK sizing notation for UK products (UK 10, UK 12). Include size_type (regular, petite, plus, maternity) and size_system: UK. These unlock Shopping size filter placements that significantly increase CTR.

👷

gender

Required for most apparel products. Values: male, female, unisex. Enables gender-based Shopping filters. Missing gender on apparel is a common UK fashion disapproval cause.

🧑

age_group

Values: adult, kids, infant, toddler, newborn. Adults is the default for most UK fashion brands, but must be specified explicitly for products in the Apparel & Accessories category.

📷

Images: apparel rules

Apparel images must show the product on a model or mannequin (Google may penalise flat-lay as primary image). White or neutral background. Minimum 250x250px, recommended 800x800px. No promotional text overlays.

Fashion title formula

The optimal Google Shopping title structure for UK fashion:

Brand + Gender + Name + Key attribute + Colour + UK Size

Example

✖ Before (as on website)
"Quilted Jacket"
✓ After (in Trajekt feed rule)
"Barbour Women’s Liddesdale Quilted Jacket — Navy — UK 12"

Frequently asked questions

For fashion, the attributes that most impact Shopping performance are: colour (must exactly match the product page), size (use UK sizes — UK 10, not US 8 or EU 38 for clothing), size_type (regular, petite, plus, maternity), gender, age_group, and material. Apparel must also include item_group_id to correctly group all sizes and colours of the same garment as a single Shopping listing.
Fashion has stricter Google Shopping requirements than most categories. Apparel-specific rules include: images must show the product on a model or mannequin (flat-lay images are penalised), white or light neutral backgrounds are strongly preferred, gender and age_group must be specified, and size must be present for items that have sizes. Missing any of these generates disapprovals in the Apparel & Accessories category.
Each colour variant needs its own feed row with a unique id (typically the variant SKU), the specific colour value for that variant, and a shared item_group_id matching the parent product. Colour values must match what appears on your product page — 'Navy Blue' in your feed must correspond to exactly 'Navy Blue' on your site, not 'Dark Blue' or 'Midnight Navy'. Colour inconsistency between feed and page is a common fashion disapproval cause.
The underlying data is the same, but the format differs. Meta's fashion-specific attributes (colour, size, gender) use the same values as Google Shopping. Meta Dynamic Product Ads for fashion can display multiple product images in carousel format — including multiple colourways of the same garment — using the same feed data. Trajekt generates both Google Shopping XML and Meta CSV from your single Shopify or WooCommerce connection.
Fashion title formula: Brand + Gender + Product name + Key attribute + Colour + Size. Example: 'Barbour Women's Liddesdale Quilted Jacket — Navy — UK 12'. Include UK size notation (UK 12) rather than EU or US sizing for UK merchants. Keep the most important attributes in the first 70 characters — what's visible before truncation on mobile.
Yes. TikTok Shop is particularly effective for fashion — 67% of UK TikTok users report the app influenced a purchase decision, and fashion is one of the top-performing categories. Trajekt generates TikTok Shop CSV with the correct format (separate currency column, 60-character optimised titles, video_link field support) from your Shopify or WooCommerce store.
Use custom labels to tag seasonal products: custom_label_1 = 'autumn-winter', 'spring-summer', 'evergreen'. This lets you increase bids on current-season stock and reduce them on off-season items in your Shopping campaigns. Trajekt rules can automatically assign seasonal labels based on your Shopify collections (New In, AW25, SS26) without you having to update each product manually.
