🧩 Rules & optimisation
Map products to the right categories
Channels like Google have their own category taxonomy. Mapping your products to the correct category improves how they're matched to searches and helps avoid disapprovals.
Why it matters
Google product category tells Google what a product actually is. Get it wrong and your products show for the wrong searches — or not at all. Some categories also unlock or require specific attributes (like age group or gender for apparel).
Mapping in Trajekt
Use a mapping rule to translate your store's product types or collections into Google product categories. For example, map your 'Jackets & Coats' collection to the appropriate apparel category. You can map broadly, then refine the exceptions.
Tips
- Map at the collection or product-type level first for coverage, then handle edge cases.
- Apparel categories usually need age group, gender, colour and size too — set these with rules if your source lacks them.
- Keep your own product_type field populated as well; Google uses it as an additional signal.
