🧩 Rules & optimisation
Find & replace and static values
Two of the most-used rule types are the simplest: find & replace, for cleaning up messy text, and static values, for setting a field to a fixed value across products.
Find & replace
Use this to fix recurring text issues — remove promotional phrases from titles, standardise 'colour' spellings, swap out a supplier's odd wording, or strip HTML fragments. You can match plain text or patterns, and apply it to any field.
Static values
Set a field to the same value for every product (or every product that matches a condition). Common uses:
- Set brand to your own brand name when the source leaves it blank.
- Set condition to 'new' across the catalogue.
- Set a default shipping or age group value a channel requires.
Combine with conditions
Both rule types can be conditional. For example, set brand = 'House Brand' only where brand is empty, so you fill the gaps without overwriting good data.
